40 Years Zuse Institute Berlin
In 2024, the Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) celebrates its 40th anniversary with a selected series of high-profile events. Since its foundation in 1984, the ZIB has established itself as a pioneer in interdisciplinary research, making outstanding contributions in the fields of algorithmic mathematics and computer science. Originally founded as a center for high-performance computing (HPC), the ZIB has developed into one of the leading research institutions, combining methodological innovations with practical applications and implementing these on state-of-the-art high-performance computing hardware.
We warmly invite you to celebrate this significant anniversary with us and to discover the extensive contributions of the ZIB to science, society, and beyond.
Pi Day on March 14
Since 2020, Pi Day has been celebrated worldwide as the International Day of Mathematics on March 14. This date was chosen because, in the American notation (3/14), it corresponds to the first three digits of the famous mathematical constant π (Pi). The Zuse Institute Berlin offers a specially designed program for students from the 10th grade on this special day, which serves as an ideal destination for school class and course excursions.
Girls' Day on April 25
Girls’ Day is an annual action day specifically aimed at inspiring female students from 5th to 8th grade for technical and scientific professions. The Zuse Institute Berlin actively participates in this initiative to bring the exciting world of mathematics closer to young girls, showing them that mathematics is not only an important foundation for numerous professions but can also be a lot of fun.
Scientific Conference from June 11 to 13
The year 2024 marks four decades of groundbreaking research, collaboration, and innovation for the ZIB. With a scientific conference, we aim to acknowledge the scientific progress and contributions of the ZIB. We offer an interesting mix of presentations, and plan to present a diverse range of voices and perspectives.
Long Night of the Sciences on June 22
As part of the Long Night of the Sciences (LNDW24), we are pleased to open our doors to the interested public again in 2024. We warmly invite you to spend an inspiring evening with us at the Zuse Institute Berlin, where you can dive deep into the fascinating world of science.
Ceremony on September 13 at 4 p.m.
This event is designed for the general public and offers a non-scientific program that presents the impacts and reach of the ZIB’s work over the years. It is a fantastic opportunity for networking, reminiscing, and a look into the future.
Zuse Research Seminar
As part of the 40th anniversary of the Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB), we are also pleased to present the Zuse Research Seminar. This seminar offers an interdisciplinary forum for researchers in the fields of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. With plenary talks that provide both an accessible overview of the respective research field and insights into the speakers’ own research, it serves to promote active dialogue and exchange within the scientific community.
